VOICE WORKSHOP - ASHEVILLE

NEW DATES: March 8th and 15th, 2026

Thank you for your interest in this eight-hour workshop (four hours March 8th and four on the 15th) exploring Shakespeare’s language and acting advice, as seen through the lens of the ideas and techniques of master voice teacher Patsy Rodenburg OBE, taught by Asheville-based Patsy Rodenburg Associate Willie Repoley. Whether you are an actor or not, whether you are beginner in your field or highly trained, this work is applicable.

Please read on for more information about the workshop. To apply, please fill out the form below to begin reflecting on your relationship to your voice, and so I can get to know you a little. (You can visit the “teacher” section of this website to learn more about me and this work.) I will be in touch with you by email to confirm.

What can you expect? A friendly, non-judgmental workshop chock full of simple, practical exercises designed to help free your own authentic voice, and release it into the world. We will explore Hamlet’s advice to actors, putting his words to the test and figuring out what they can mean for us today.

Who is the ideal participant? Although we will be focusing on Shakespeare, the truth is that if you speak — if you interact with other people — this is for you. Voice workshops are often aimed at actors or folks giving professional presentations, but the techniques we will be exploring together are broadly applicable, and helpful across innumerable disciplines. The truth is, we all have a voice — but most of us don’t use it fully or efficiently.

This workshop will help you identify and use your authentic voice by building awareness of the vital connection of body, breath, voice and speech. The work is embodied, meaning it is not learned primarily with the brain but with the body. You will be on your feet, engaging physically with the ideas and techniques presented. You will begin to identify and release habits that restrict your ability to speak with ease and presence. You will work to deepen the breath, extend the breath, and to release the voice cleanly and fully. I believe this is what Shakespeare asks of actors, as Hamlet succinctly advises them before an important performance.

You will learn how to recognize and utilize Patsy Rodenburg’s Three Circles of Energy™ that describe and define our attention towards the world and each other. If you have studied acting, you are probably familiar with Patsy Rodenburg through her many wonderful books, including The Right to Speak, Speaking Shakespeare, and The Woman’s Voice. Whether or not you have read her books, this is a chance to experience her work as intended: on your feet, not just on the page.

The cost of this workshop is $185.00. In most cases, attendance at the first week is required in order to participate in the second week. It is, however, possible to sign up for the first week only, if you are looking for a more general introduction and do not wish to apply the work as rigorously at this time. Cost for March 8th only is $100.00.

The workshop will be held at Sun Soo Martial Arts (800 Fairview Road / Suite D-2, in the River Ridge Market Place), Asheville NC, 28803 on Sunday March 8th and Sunday March 15th, from Noon - 4pm. Space is limited. Sun Soo students and those in need may be eligible for a further discount; please inquire.

Please submit the form below, and I will be in touch ASAP to confirm registration.
