Recorded in my home studio on an Ear Trumpet Labs “Myrtle” large diaphragm condenser microphone, with a DBX286s preamp and Focusrite Scarlett interface, on a dedicated MacBook.
The Occultists, by Polly Schattel. My debut novel is historical fiction shot through with fantasy and a touch of horror. Over 19 hours long, with 50 distinct characters. Available on Audible.

On stage, on camera, or in the booth, my passion is simple and authentic human connection.

I’ve been acting professionally since 2002, and as an Equity member since 2008. I’ve played roles on stage as varied as Prior Walter in Angels in America, Nick Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and George Bailey in Live From WVL Radio Theater: It's A Wonderful Life, and — through the magic of film and TV — I’ve helped Neil Armstrong (Ryan Gosling) return to Earth, President Lincoln (Billy Campbell) exit Ford’s Theatre, and Aretha Franklin (Cynthia Erivo) record “I Never Loved A Man.”

What led me to audiobooks?

As a kid, I enjoyed listening to cassette tapes of books and old-time radio shows; as a parent, I’ve spent sixteen years (and counting!) reading poems, stories, and novels to my daughters at night. But the real beginning of my narration journey caught me somewhat by surprise, when — long story short — a Hawaiian martial arts master heard me speaking Ancient Greek text (from the solo play An Iliad) in an orange grove in Portugal and asked, “have you ever considered audiobook narration?”

I had, actually! But I’d been busy: running cross-country, and Morris dancing at a Renaissance Festival in high school; attending Quaker meetings, and giving tours of Shakespeare’s Globe in London during college; touring coast-to-coast with an Old-Time/contra dance band, and co-founding two theater companies in my 20s; and substitute teaching, and cooking dinner for my family most nights in my 30s and 40s. Since 2017 I have studied with world-renowned voice & presence coach Patsy Rodenburg, OBE, and earned a teaching certification as a Patsy Rodenburg Associate in 2023.

Ultimately, that question in the orange grove inspired me to return to my days of listening to “books on tape” on long road trips with my parents, reminding me of the joy of sharing a story directly with a single listener. So took classes, built a booth, brushed up on my accent work, and took the audiobook plunge.

Although my heritage is half Italian, I studied German instead, am comfortable with various accents (especially British variants), and am a native North Carolinian. My voice is comforting, folksy; something to keep you warm on a chilly night. I can bring out nuances of character and situation while keeping the story moving forward efficiently; whether a Southern mystery, cozy comedy, historical fiction, dense non-fiction, or whatever has just come across your desk that needs a fresh, new voice.

I’m excited to bring my experience, vocal training, and positive attitude to your next audiobook!
